When we started using L-Track for van builds and other applications we found that it can be quite difficult to accurately measure where to drill the mounting holes since the drilling surface is recessed. To accurately and quickly drill pilot holes we created these drill Jigs for a 1/8" drill size.
The jigs can be ordered with a centered hole or an offset one. Ideally you are able to use a centered hole on the 1" on-center spacing in the L-track but in some circumstances you may need a bit of an offset. For example, in the Ram Promaster 159" WB model a couple of the factory holes are spaced at 10.9" rather than 11". Sure, you could drill a hole at 9" or 12" and avoid this factory hole altogether but its always best to use pre-existing holes when possible. So we created the offset jig!
Works well for starter holes, but should be sized slightly larger so that it fights tightly in the track. The drill guide is loose, so it can allow the starter holes to be off center, which causes a problem when enlarging the holes. I installed rivnuts, which must be perfectly centered. Might be less of an issue with plain screws.

The drill guide worked really well when it worked but among the five brands of track I’m working with the actual dimensions vary enough that it has a lot of slop in several of them. If all the tracks actually had the 3/4 holes it would be a great tool. And I don’t know of a convenient way to tighten things up.

I wish the steel guide was longer so it would drill more accurate. It could be longer and stick out the. Bottom of the 3D printed part, and I wish the insert didnt break loose on the third hole I drilled. Will it work for the rest of my van build... probably, could the build quality be better and fetch a higher sale price? Absolutely!
